Dodge introduced the Cummins power plant in 1989 rate at 160HP. Until 1998, Cummins had a mechanically controlled fuel injection system. Halfway through the production year in 1998, Dodge switched to an electronically controlled fuel system. This is when the VP44 injection pump was introduced, capable of pressures around 16,000 psi. At these pressures your injectors are going to wear out. WORN OUT INJECTORS will decrease your fuel mileage and power. Some signs of your injectors going out are:
